About

Hello! I’m Nico Aguilar Shank (they/them), founder of Mid-Flight Consulting. I am a queer, mixed-race, Salvadoran facilitator, trainer, English/Spanish interpreter, mediator, therapist, and abolitionist living between Portland, Oregon and San Salvador, El Salvador.

I have worked for 20 years in labor, non-profit, and community organizations in the US, Mexico and Central America, including as Organizer, Deputy Director, Executive Director, and Founder. I am currently the primary consultant with Mid-Flight, and a member of the RoadMap Consulting team.

As a consultant, I have worked with local base-building organizations, foundations, labor, international organizations and coalitions. I focus on building resilient organizations, and offer facilitation, strategic planning, aligning workplace culture with organizational values, and coaching. I’m committed to deep transformation and abolition as an “organizing vision, strategy, and practice” (Mariame Kaba), and enjoy the challenge of working within our current change vehicle of non-profits to move towards this.

I’m also a part time therapist, and I believe that our organizations are only as healthy as the people inside of them. While our collective work may hold systemic change at the center, I believe it is possible for them to also be a source of personal growth, healing, community building, and preservation of our cultures.

I look forward to learning about your organization and supporting you on your journey.
